Important Note: Actual program times and availability may vary due to weather (especially wind, clouds, and high humidity) and other factors. Check fpoa.net for updated status. We may restrict the program if the skies do not cooperate (there is no such thing as a cloud filter😀).
Evening public programs at Fremont Peak Observatory include an informative media presentation by an FPOA volunteer interpreter in the observatory classroom. Presentation times vary with the season (see schedule below). When it is dark enough the public will be invited to observe with the 30" telescope and other FPOA telescopes {weather permitting} until at least midnight (often later); however, viewing may be shortened if there are no visitors {or weather}.
Daytime solar programs use special filters that allow you to safely see details on the surface of the sun, and run from 2PM to 5PM.
Programs on other nights for School, Scout and Church groups may also be arranged by emailing info at fpoa dot net. Our contract with the state requires a couple of weeks notice. Subject to staffing

Solar observing is offered at the observatory from 2 PM to 5 PM on these dates. See sunspots, granules, facula, and solar prominences through special sun telescopes.
Sun activity will be close to maximum in 2025. Any program this year should be a good show. Check the status on our website for more information.
